See How Much Taxpayers Pay For Rainbow Crosswalks In Atlanta

The permanent rainbow crosswalks, recently installed at 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Midtown, cost $196,000 to install.

The city released the cost of the project earlier this week .

The cost of the crosswalks amounted to “$196,000 to install and should last for about 10 years before repairs,” 11Alive reports.

Some Atlantans interviews by 11Alive about the crosswalk expressed disapproval. One said, “I say that money should be spent in schools. This is stuff that could be spent on educating young people instead of trying to make the city look pretty.”

“Let the young people make the city look pretty, because they’re artists and let the taxpayer money go to educating said young people.”

However, another resident said the cost doesn’t bother her, saying, “I support it. I think they’re beautiful and they’re a work of art.”

The news that nearly $200,000 is being used to make a set of crosswalks rainbow comes as Atlanta has recently been ranked one of the neediest cities in America for homelessness. Atlanta was also named among the top 25 murder capitals in America last year.
